OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS

How we assess companies

SignalGuard evaluates public information about companies against defined checks. Our reports show what we found, the sources behind each finding and the limits of the assessment.

See the assessment process

Five steps, from public sources to company reports.

The five steps—Gather, Assess, Review, Report and Explore—lead to a simplified view of the SignalGuard report.
01

PUBLIC SOURCES

We collect publicly available information.

Research draws on company websites, published policies and public records. Technical checks record observable details about a company’s online services.

Source links and captured material provide a record of what was found and when. Each finding applies to the company, product and scope researched.

For example, finding a privacy policy confirms it is published, not that the company follows it.
Source records with original material, captured date and scope, using the site’s evidence card layout.
02

DEFINED CRITERIA

We assess five areas using defined checks.

The checks cover customer experience, service reliability, business practices, compliance and cybersecurity. Each check addresses a specific question about the company.

Results reflect what the available evidence supports. They may indicate a favourable finding, a concern or information for context. Unresolved and unassessed checks remain visible.

A result applies to the question assessed, not every aspect of the company.
Five assessment areas lead to a focused example: a customer experience question, the Page loading experience check, and its definition, evidence, scope, result and limitations. No company findings are shown.
03

HUMAN REVIEW

We review AI-assisted findings.

AI assists with extracting and summarizing source material. AI-assisted findings require human review before inclusion in an approved release.

Reviewers compare findings with the original sources, consider their context and limitations, and accept, reject or request changes. Publication requires a separate approval.

An AI summary is not evidence on its own.
A light per-check review form with supporting evidence, outcome, reason, and Reject, Needs changes and Accept decisions. Publication approval is separate.
04

COMPANY REPORTS

We present the results and their evidence.

Each report brings together the assessment results, recorded concerns and supporting sources. You can see the findings for each area and where questions remain unresolved.

Any displayed score is a provisional summary of assessed findings. Evidence coverage is shown separately: it indicates how many applicable checks have an assessed result.

Higher coverage means more checks have been assessed, not that the company is more trustworthy.
The actual report structure: header, open-arc trust gauge, separate evidence coverage, Assessment, Concerns and Claims, five area cards and question accordions. No company records are shown.
05

READING THE FINDINGS

You can examine the findings in detail.

Open an assessment area, select an individual check and review its supporting evidence. The report explains what the result means and the limitations that affect its interpretation.

When comparing companies, consider the sources, assessment dates and evidence coverage alongside the results. Use the findings to inform your own decisions.

Explore the directory
An individual check opens the site’s evidence inspector with result meaning, caveats, recorded observation and original sources.

UNDERSTANDING THE LIMITS

What an assessment can tell you

Public information has limits.

Public sources cannot establish every aspect of a company’s internal operations or customer experience. Findings describe the scope and time assessed.

Unknown is unresolved.

An Unknown result is neither favourable nor a concern. Checks without collected evidence are shown as Not assessed.

Scores are provisional.

Scores summarize available findings and remain subject to validation. They are not certifications or guarantees of safety, reliability or future performance.

Sub-bucket

The 17 sub-buckets combine existing Purple Pages sections with newly proposed ones, such as Web risk or Support responsiveness. Each check has one primary sub-bucket and may also inform others.

Check

One of 57 checks in the master inventory. A check shows a result for a company only when evidence has been collected; otherwise it is Not assessed. Demo profiles summarize assessed findings into a trust score.

How evidence is gathered

{{ r.label }}{{ r.count }} checks
{{ r.title }}

AI-assisted findings keep their source links and an uncertainty note. They point to public evidence; they are not independent verification, and the AI summary never replaces the original source.

What a result can look like

{{ t.label }} {{ t.body }} {{ t.example }}

An Unknown result is unresolved. It does not count for or against the company. A check with no collected evidence is shown as Not assessed. A documented finding that a required disclosure is missing is assessed separately under the relevant check.

Open any check to see its source, retrieval date, method (Script, AI-extracted or Hybrid), the rule applied and its limitations. AI-extracted results show whether a person has reviewed them.

No public result is not a clean bill of health. Unknown and not-assessed checks are listed so gaps stay visible.
